The final single from Sola ahead of releasing her mixtape ‘Warped Soul’ out 28th September. The track focuses on trying to find power in loss and grief, with a lot of incredible orchestral elements amongst trip-hop influences and an incredible verse from Rarelyalways, a British artist who counts his influences amongst Tricky, Roots Manuva and J Dilla.
Of the song Sola shares: "This song is about the spiral of self-destructiveness & self-sabotage, and finding a way to find power in weakness, loss, and grief. It started off as a 30 minute jam track in a session with Moses Boyd, which I later whittled down at home and added a guest feature by Rarelyalways. The song is really influenced by artists like Portishead and combines elements of trip-hop, hip-hop and classical music from classical music with orchestral elements like strings and horns.”
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
